Nikon SLR Cameras

Should I purchase a new camera or keep my JVC MiniDV for YouTube videos?

I plan on making a beauty channel on YouTube, but not sure if I should invest in another camera or not. I already have a JVC GR-DA30 MiniDV Digital Video Camera, so I'm wondering if this will be a good camera to start off with or should I just jump into getting a High Definition DSLR? If you think I should stick with my JVC MiniDV, how can I connect it to the computer? I know I'll need to get a firewire cable, but where can I get one? Would that cord be all I need? As for the new camera, what would you suggest? I prefer Nikons over Canons, so would rather have a Nikon if possible. My price range is $100-400.

Just stick with what you have for now. You'll need the firewire cable and a firewire slot on your computer.

When your buying the PCI slot, you'll need to know the slot type.

Get a firewire cable and the firewire slot off of ebay, it should be cheaper then in stores, way cheaper.

Stick with the JVC. By getting that DSLR, you will getting worst video. That is because DSLR cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video.

Your MiniDV camcorder does not do that. Any camcorder not using tape as a storage media will interpolate the video, as stated above. This means you have the best possible camcorder already.

Since you are already familiar with your JVC camera, then by all means use it. You can get the cable at any office supply or computer store. There are no dSLRs in the $100-400 range.while dSLRs are the sexy new kid, there's a steep learning curve, limited video mode time (less than half an hour), and darn hard to get in focus.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ47K 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 24xOptical Zoom - Black is fantastic. I'm a complete amateur who wants to learn more about photography. I have owned several point & shoot cameras, and have never been completely satisfied with the quality of the photos. This was a big upgrade for me and I'm extremely satisfied thus far. This camera is sturdy, easy to use, and has taken great photos so far. It has a lot of different settings, but has been easy enough for a novice like me to use. The zoom is amazing as well as the sports setting. It has allowed me to take great candids of my children while they were playing in the backyard.
