Should get rid of my Nikon 18-55mm lens?
I have a Nikon D-3100. I was planning on getting a 55-200mm A-FS but I need a bit of more cash to get it, I could trade in my 18-55mm that comes with the camera so I can afford it. Should I go ahead and do that, or should I wait a bit more until I get more money?
If you ditch your 18-55, there goes your wide-angle capabilities. It's a good little lens. Get the 18-200 VRII instead. I have the first generation for my D200, and have been using it since like 2007. One size fits all.
Sell everything and buy canon, no just kidding, wait
The 18-55mm kit lens is a really nice focal length range and it has close focusing capabilities. Chances are, you'll be using the 18-55 more than the 55-200.
Your 18-55mm is way better for indoor shots, keep it. The 55-200mm will help you get those far away shots, that will expand your photography experience. Keep saving. Like someone said, if you want to have one lens do it all, keep saving for the18-200mm. I went one step further and got the Tamron 18-270mm PZD lens, so there's lots of choices out there.
Of course not, you need both.
