SD card saying 'not formatted' in camera after deleting files from card on computer?
Added (1). I deleted the files from 2 SD cards by opening them in finder (on Mac) and then manually deleted them. Both SD cards now come up on my camera as 'This card is not formatted. Format the card'. I googled this and tried going to utilities>disk utility and restored the card and 'repaired' it. I put it back in my Nikon and still not working. Help appreciated! Also saw from google results st using Terminal but opened it and was a bit scared bc codes >.< so if you think that's a solution go easy on me!

Deleting the files from the card is not the same as re-formatting it. You should make it part of your routine to always re-format the card immediately each time you return it to the camera. DON'T format it in your computer. Read the manual.
If took everything out from your card, try formatting the card on camera. If you still getting this error once in awhile, most likely your card has problem or your card reader is damaged.
Also, when removing the card from your computer, make sure your hit "Safely remove devices from your computer" at the bottom right task bar.
Edit: Don't know how it works on the Mac. Maybe other ppl can help you with that. Format your card on camera.
If it tells you to Format the card, then that's what you should do.
A few things to know about using SD cards:
1. Never format the cards using computers (PC or MAC - doesn't matter). ALWAYS format the card using the camera's format function.
2. Never cut (Option + X) from the card. Always copy (Option + C) and then paste them into a folder on your computer (Option + V). When you format the card with a PC or MAC, the file system on the card will get corrupt. The file system that your camera uses to write data is different from a computer, so when you format the card, you're basically setting it up to be written to using a specific file systems (e.g. FAT, FAT-32, NTFS). This is why a camera wouldn't recognize a memory card than had been formatted by a computer.
3. Always format the card after downloading images onto the computer. This in effect will delete the files, clean out the card, prevent file fragments and ensure that the card is ready for your next day of shooting.
Not following any of these rules will cause your SD card to become corrupt. But, fortunately, using the camera's FORMAT function will typically fix any issues.
