Scope recommendation for a Marlin X7VH?

Today, I bought a new Marlin model X7VH in.22-250 Remington, and am now looking for a scope to mount on it.
I want to keep it around $250-$300, but I'm willing go a bit higher if need be. I would like to know what size/magnification be best suited. I will be varmint and predator hunting with this rifle. I had Nikon and Leupold in mind, but would like to hear all suggestions.

I recommend a Leupold VX 2.
I have a 3x9x40 on my.30-06 and I love it. I paid $285 for it new. I've seen them go as high as $339, and as low as $250 on sale. It depends on where you buy it.
It has crystal clear optics and a lifetime warranty. Best of all, it's made in the USA.
Nikon scopes are also good, but I'd rather buy an American product.
A 3x9x40 or a 4x12x40 should do nicely.
If you google the key words "Leupold VX 2" it gives you a lot of online sellers too.
