Nikon DSLR cameras is there a manufacter seal?

I bought a brand new expensive Nikon DSLR camera today. But the big box had no protective seal.
The contents inside was wrapped in transparent small bags, open cardboard and open wrapping, but again these were not sealed.

Seems a bit odd to me as other expensive electricals half this price are always boxed/wrapped up in sealed packaging.

Just wandering is this normal for Nikon to sell brand new DSLR cameras without any protective seal?

The retailer would take delivery of a number of sealed units - generally, he'd hand one over as he sold it with the seal intact.

Either this was a display model, or the contents of the box were checked for some other reason - I'd ask why.

Did you wonder about the factory seal at the time? If so, why didn't you ask then? And, if you wanted one with a factory seal you could have asked for it or not bought. If it was a floor model I wouldn't have taken it.

I don't remember seeing any tape seals on Nikon stuff I've bought, bodies, flashes, and lenses. Just looked at a 35mm f/1.8 box and it doesn't have any tape seals. You can see the number of shots the camera has taken by looking at the "shutter count" meta data in your camera image. You can use Opanda to look at the meta data. A new camera which is unused will start with zero. I have seen a store selling Nikon equipment which has been returned as brand new (camera had a couple hundred shots, the wrong style memory card installed, and missing items).

At least the box and plastic bags should have been taped. That is unless you tested the camera in the store. From where I'm, that's standard procedure.

This is where buying from a reputable store or online site has its great advantage. Peace of mind does come with a price.
