Nikon 880 camera? Picture transfer?
I just found an old Nikon 880 camera at Goodwill, and I can't seem to get my pictures to transfer. I installed Nikon Transfer after having to find a newer version online, and it refuses to recognize the fact that I have images in my camera. It also won't recognize pictures on my iPod, and there are over 200 on it. I don't know if it just won't work with this camera, if I need to get a card reader, or what. I have the CompactFlash memory card for it, but there was no reader included. I can get one, but I don't know if it will work with a new Mac and I'd rather not spend the money if it won't work anyways.
So my questions. Nikon Transfer doesn't seem to work, any suggestions how to fix it? And: If I get a card reader, will it work with the newest Mac and Windows softwares?
Your nikon takes JPEG photos, a standard format.
Although the device controller seems to have been superceded the images should still be usable, but a card reader is really the only way to retrieve them from the camera.
USB card readers will work fine with any Mac or PC.
They're cheap (a multi-format one that will do CF, SD, SDHC, and other cards is about $15), fast, and save you from having to use the camera battery when transferring pictures.
That's your best bet.
