Choice is between a Cannon 600D and a Nikon 3200 or one close to that. It's for pleasure n hobby. Not professional. But I can venture into that during my free time which I have a lot at the moment.
What do you recommend? Budget around MYR 2500.00

I'd say Nikon. It's more friendly for me.

The Nikon that is in direct competition with the 600D is actually the Nikon D5100

Since you are buying a system, NOT a specific camera brand, here is something you may want consider.

"If Nikon ships this camera (new D600) in that price range ($1, 500), I think it will be very disruptive in the DSLR market. If Canon fails to respond in-kind, this could very well be a camera that makes it worth jumping systems for many." -- Photography Bay

Spend a lot of time researching the two camera systems, not just the entry level versions. Once you buy a Nikon or Canon dSLR, you will be married to it for the next few decades.

There's only one, 'N,' in, 'Canon.'

Why Canon or Nikon?

Sony do better video, and their predecessors, Minolta, produced both the world's first multimode SLR and the first AF SLR.

Pentax were making SLRs first in Japan, and still get positive reviews.

Reviewers also like Olympus DSLRs.

If you want to follow the herd, KMZ have turned out more precision cameras (rangefinder and SLR ) than Canon and Nikon combined.

If you only know two manufacturers, and can't spell one of them, you should find a dealer who can advise you and let you handle a couple of candidates - then make your choice on the one that feels right when you pick it up.

Most people like Nikon for nature shots, and Canon for action shots. We own a Nikon and a Canon, and the only major differences we have seen is in the CMOS sensor in the Canon which is much better than what the Nikon uses. Basically, its preference because both are outstanding cameras.

And btw, anyone that shoots video with a DSLR should have their head checked. The best of the DSLR cameras do not offer video.

Both Nikon and Canon are excellent brands, as also is Sony. I'm a Nikon user.

I shoot Nikon - however, I think the Canon 600D is a better camera than the Nikon 3200. Ignore the MP, they mean nothing - the Canon for me has far better features
