Nikon SLR Cameras

My camera lens can't extend, what can I do?

I have a Nikon L105, The actual lens that is permanently attached to the camera is where I'm having a problem with. It recently took a fall and is no longer working properly.

How it is suppose to act: When I turn on the camera, the lens expands, when I turn it off, it retracts.
How it is acting now: The lens will not expand when I turn it on and my camera screen is reading it as a lens cap error.

The outer rim of the camera has a small dent in it from the fall, thus not allowing the lens to expand.

Do you think this can be fixed?

Sorry, but your camera is more than likely done for. Why weren't you wearing the neck strap that Nikon so thoughtfully provided? Call Nikon and ask them for a repair estimate. You won't be able to fix the camera yourself.

Anything can be fixed with enough money, but at this point, it's not really worth it.

Fixing it would cost more than getting a new camera.

It most likely landed on the lens and broke some of the internal gears. With the prices of cameras dropping, it's probably more cost effective to get a new one.

They have them on amazon right now for $125 for a new one.

I had a Nikon L105 (Christmas Target special, right?) It's an all plastic p&s that comes with one very important accessory - a full neckstrap.

Now that I've done with that, all I can tell you is that if the outer rim (plastic) is dented, your only option is to either have it GENTLY pulled back out, or have the body replaced by a repair shop. Since this was a $99 Christmas item, it wouldn't be worth it for a professional repair. You can try to do it yourself, or just replace the camera. BTW, dropped cameras aren't covered by factory warranties.

Dropping cameras is all too common of a post here. I just don't see how so many cameras get dropped.

It is broken, and not economically repairable.

You may wish to look into a ruggedized camera, such as the Nikon 100AW or Olympus 810. These cameras are designed to withstand being dropped.
