What & how many camera lenses and equipment should I take on a family trip to Disneyland?
I don't want to haul everything around for 3 days but want to get some great photo's. I have the following: 4 off camera remote TTL Flashes and several modifiers; an 18-55 Nikon Kit Lens; a 55-200 Nikon Kit Lens; an 85mm Nikkor Micro/macro Lens; A Sigma 18-250 Telephoto; a Tamron 10-18mm Wide Angle; and a Nikkor 35mm Prime.
It depends on what your goal is. If your goal is just to take regular "family" pictures your 18-55 Lens is probably the best "all-around" choice.
Then depending on how many lenses you want to take and how often you want to keep switching lenses will determine the others. I personally would probably take the 85mm and 10-18mm Wide Angle over your Telephoto lenses, as probably 95% of the things you are going to want to shoot are going to be close range where a zoom is not really going to be needed. Now of course if you leave the others at home inevitably you are going to have at least one point where you are going to say to yourself."I should have brought the other lenses".So you may want to bring one of your telephoto lenses but only plan on taking it to the park on 1 day(and not the first) so you can see if you are actually going to want to use it.
As for the flash, they do not allow any flash photography in ANY attraction so your flashes would be for outside use only. Just as with the lens, if your goal is just regular "family" pictures bring what you consider your best all-around flash. For other type of photography unless you have a Tri-Pod you don't really need to worry about any remote triggers. For just photographing various aspects of Disney there's often enough ambient light where a flash may actually wash out some of the detail.
One other thing you will also find is that carrying several camera lenses and flashes around for 3 days is quite a task. Because you will have to hold your bag on each attraction. So keep that in mind as to what you take each into the parks.
I don't know anything about photography, but I do know park policies.
Lenses should be less than 6" in length.
No professional photography equipment permitted. They've had problems in the past with paparazzi stalking celebrity guests.
Tripods should fold into a backpack and, of course, should not be set up in high traffic areas.
Flashes are permitted, but not necessary except for nighttime shots of your party. I've seen people take unnecessary flash photos of fireworks, and flash photography on rides is strictly forbidden.
If security inspects your gear and decides is too "professional" stuff you might not be able to bring it in at all… Media has to have a special pass to get their stuff in the parks
Take as little as you can take and still get good pictures… Flash won't be necessary unless you want for night pictures… Like others have said you can't take flash pictures in the rides or shows.
besides who wants to carry around a heavy camera bag all day long.
Camera with the 18-55 is a good choice. Most of the other equipment you don't need and if you have more than a couple lenses in your bag they won't let you bring it in.
