Nikkor 10-30mm lens displaying lens error?
I've got a Nikon 1 J1 camera which I've had for about a year now. It came in a starter kit with a 10-30mm Nikkor lens-which has worked fine until now.
I'm no camera buff-just wanted a better than average camera for some good holiday shots, so I'm as dumb as dumb can get in the camera world other than taking a few good shots here and there.
Whilst on my last holiday it started displaying "lens error-contact a nikon authorised service centre" whenever it was switched on. I've managed to narrow this down to when the zoom on the lens is set at around 14. I can switch the camera on using the zoom, turning it to max zoom, and when I zoom out and it hits 14 the error message comes up. Until this point I can capture photos but once the error message comes up I have to switch off and on again.
I've tried wiping the little connector blobs between the camera and lens which hasn't helped.
I've tried wiggling the zoom when extended as advised by another website but still nothing.
Average quote for it to just be looked at is £90 --!
Also I no longer have my receipt for it so don't know if Nikon will help yet.
Ay sensible advice is welcome-I really need some help on this one.
It said "contact a nikon authorised service centre". I'm making this clear as day. "We (Y! Answers community) are not a Nikon Authorized Service Center. I highly suggest you bring the camera back to the store you bought it from and ask for advise there. Don't forget to bring the receipt. If they can't fix it, at least they should be able to point you to the right direction which is their authorized Nikon service center.
