Is there a big diff.between the Nikkor 55-200 and the Tamron 18-270mm?

I mean does any body own both lenses and have seen a big diff.of the 200 to 270 mm? I wanted to buy the Tamron lens but I'm still not sure… Anybody?

I can only answer based on film cameras. It is different for digital. The Tamron offers a wider range. You also have to consider the f stop/appature range as well. I'm just answering off of oldschool knowledge. In general a 50mm lens has the range of the human eye, so an 18mm lens has a wider view, plus the 270 is a better zoom than 200.

Tamron is a third party lens maker that makes lenses that are cheaper than the original brand. Expect glass and build quality to be lower. 18-270mm is a lot of zoom and in general, the more zoom the lens has, the lower the optical quality is. Blame science on that. The Nikkor would be much better especially if you already have the 18-55mm kit zoom lens. If you are aiming to just use one lens for everything then yes, get the Tamron. That's what it was made for exactly.
