Difference between Nikkor VRI and Tamron 70-200 2.8 lens?

I'm trying to decide between the two. I can't afford the Nikkor VRII, so I'm looking into the earlier model vs. The Tamron. I read that the Tamron is significantly slower, which is a bummer. Can you give me your suggestions between the two lenses?

The Nikon has VR and focuses way faster than the Tamron, though the Tamron may be slightly better than the Nikon. Overall, go for Nikon if they're roughly around the same price. 5 years from now when you may consider upgrading, the Nikon will sell for much more money than the Tamron.
