How to know if my 70-300 mm lens has a Macro option?
Someone answered my question and said I could use my 70-030 mm lens if it has a Maro Lens. How do I know if it does or not
I have the AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6 G IF ED
No you need to not
It will say "macro"…
BUT a 70-300mm lens isn't a macro lens… It is a zoom lens with a macro facility - that might be 1:4 magnification…
a true macro lens is a prime lens with 1:1 magnification…
i use a tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens…
It does not.
A macro lens is a few things.
1) it is a special flat field lens
2) it can shoot specified image to subject ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4.
3) true macro lenses are prime lenses (yours is obviously a zoom lens)
* many generic lens companies extend the focusing range of some of their zoom lenses to allow 1:4 image to subject ratios and the call them "macro". They are not really since in those extended focusing ranges, the edges of the images show pincushion or barrel distortion.
Your lens is not a macro lens. But, as you mention, you can use it to take extreme close ups of flowers etc. And it won't let you down. You can even capture the lady bugs and grass hoppers on the flowers with enough magnification. Beyond that you need a dedicated macro lens.
