Pony boy is right. You want the AF-S lens, but the reason you want it is for the VR.

Here are 400-some samples with the Nikon 70-300 AF-S "VR" lens, mostly on a D300. The D300 and D90 sensors are nearly identical and you would be able to get the same results.
