I have the Nikkor 1.8 G which is obviously a manual focus lens and my question is that how can i get sharp focus with this lens? When i look through the viewfinder and focus the pictures look focused in the viewfinder but later when i look at them on my desktop they're out of focus why? How can i get sharp focus?

The G lens is an auto focus lens. Have you tried using autofocus?

Does your camera have focus peaking in live view? If so use that. If not, wear your glasses, focus, and hope for the best.

IF you normally use AF lenses, and you're now trying to focus manually with the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens (it's an AF lens, has no focusing ring on the barrel), you must set the LENS' focus mode (on the lens' barrel) to "M" and then the set the camera's focus-mode selector (right side of the lens mount, in the front side of your camera) to "M," also. Failure to set both the lens AND the camera manual focus mode can cause harm to your lens and/or camera, according to the instructions manual.

IF you've done this and you still have problems getting a properly focused image, I can only suggest that you adjust the diopter assist. First, us an AF lens, focus on something, and turning the diopter adjustment assist to where you can see it clearly. The diopter adjustment is done with the little wheel on the right side on the viewfinder. We don't all have perfect vision, and this is a great aid for many of us. When you do this, you will get a clearer image through the viewfinder and will be able to properly see to focus manually with the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G.

Have you checked your diopter control?

Firstly, check the dioptre settig on the viewfinder. This adjusts the viewfinder display to your eyesight.

Secondly, when you are manually focusing with that lens, you should see a flashing dot on the viewfinder display (bottom left on my D300, yours may be different) which becomes a steady dot when manual focus is achieved. I use this when focusing my manual lenses.
