Autofocus on Nikkor 55-200mm not working?
Is there any way I can fix this myself? If not does anyone know about how much Nikon charges to fix it?
The 55-250mm AF-S has an A/M focus switch, which has to be set to A. If you've done this, and the lens still isn't working, Nikon can answer your questions better than we can.
If your lens is AF, rather than AF-S, it has no built-in motor, and therefore Can't autofocus on a D40, D80, or any of the D3xxx and D5xxx series.
The Nikon 55-200mm is an AF-S lens and should work perfectly with any Nikon autofocus camera. The only thing to check is if the Autofocus switches (A-M) are set to "A" on your lens. If you have a more advanced Nikon such as a D50/D70/D80/D90/D7000/D7100/D100/D200/D3… Etc, then check the AF/M switch on the camera body.
You need a skilled repairman for this. I have included Nikon's number here in the USA and repair company with an excellent reputation. Your only out is that you have possibly not done the simple things suggested by other contributors prior to my contribution.
Good Luck!

You don't mention which model body that you have. If it is a D7100, D7000, D90, D300, D200, or similar higher end body, then George Y has probably nailed it by being the camera body switch turned to M. That switch exists so that the camera can select between manual and automatic on the older type lenses that link to the camera body autofocus drive pin. Your 55-200mm is an AF-S lens that doesn't use that mechanical link, but switching it to manual on the body also turns off the electronic autofocus communication.
