Now i know Nikkor is a Nikon brand so what's the difference? I mean yes i can see the 55 and 75 difference in the lens but what will make me want a 55mm from a 75?

Also, the AF and AF-S? Is that a big deal i mean my camera has those focus modes

Af-s cameras have built in autofocus motors, Af lenses do not.

Ignoring the difference in focal length does not make them similar. Focal length is what classifies a lens and dictates how the lens is used. The advantage of the 55-300mm is the longer zoom range with a wider angle of view at 55mm. Technically, the 70-300mm should have slightly better optics for the simple reason that it has a shorter zoom range.

AF lenses do not autofocus with most entry-level Nikons like the D3100 and D5100.AF-S lenses do. VR lenses have anti-shake technology producing sharper pictures when the camera is handheld.

A few things pop up:
1. VR is vibration reduction. That increases the price significantly.

2.AF-S means focus motor is part of the lens assembly. Faster focusing, but if your camera handles AF lenses, this isn't a big deal.AF-S increases the price.

3. ED is better glass. More money, please.

4. Wider zoom range. That costs more.
