Nikon SLR Cameras

Is this camera an SLR with removable lens?

Need a quick answer! Was looking at the Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras for my son for Christmas, this is the type of DSLR he would like, with the removable, interchangeable lens. But those are both $500. I can get the Fuji Film Finepix HS10 10 Megapixel CMOS Digital Camera, for $355. What I want to know is, does this camera have the removable, interchangeable lens?

No it's not.

If you are on a tight budget, but still want a DSLR, Ebay (or Craigslist) a slightly older model, like the Nikon D80, D60, or D40.

I agree, there isn't a dslr for under about $500. I own the Rebel XS, an excellent camera but it's still
$500. You might find one used, but I don't recommend buying used. Refurbished may be an option but that's still going to be around $450.

No the Fuji Finepix HS 10 does not have interchangeable lenses.

The Fuji HS10 is known as a "bridge" camera. A bridge camera is a camera with a long zoom lens permanently attached to the camera body. And all the "pro's" on this site will 'poo", "poo". This type of camera. But I'm to tell you that if you don't want to carry all those lenses which you will ultimately buy for one type of use over another, a "bridge" camera is a great solution. But on the other hand. If you are relatively young say under 60 and you want a great hobby, there's nothing better than a DSLR these days. DSLR's will be there for all your 11x14 and 16x20 enlargements in terms of quality. DSLR's are built more rugged, but of course they too, do not drop well. DSLR cameras also have a larger sensor, which the smaller cameras, like the Fuji FInepix HS10 does not have. So if you decide on a DSLR, do one thing for me please! Buy him a "sexy" neck strap and MAKE him keep the camera around his neck. Young people write this form every day complaining that they dropped there camera (because they were carry the camera by the neck strap instead of having the strap around their neck).
Dropping a digital camera is almost certainly sending it to the "cemetary for digital cameras"!

Here is an affordable, refurbished Olympus camera which takes Olympus and Panasonic lenses made to fit the Four/Thirds interchangeable lens system. The dealer is reputable and I have dealt with them for about five years (I do not have any affiliation with them and get no $$ or other benefit for a recommendation).

The advantage to selecting this camera would be that it is a DSLR with interchangeable lenses, it is high quality mechanically, electronically and optically and is very compact and lightweight. I have purchased refurbished Olympus products and they have been great values.

You could also try B&H Photo, another reputable on-line dealer, to see if they have a similar deal on this or any other models. I do not find their web site as easy to search as Adorama so I did not do a detailed search.

A final note, Canon and Nikon are the best selling brands (in North America anyway) but Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax and Sony are also reliable brands that make high quality cameras. I listed them in alphabetical order.

Hope that helps. Email me if you need more information.

No it is not.

But that doesn't mean it's a bad camera.

You can't take off and swap lenses with this camera. However, you can purchase fisheye lenses, teleconversion lenses, and standard lens filters for decent prices. I own this one, and it's a great camera. Takes beautiful images and gorgeous 1080p video. Very easy to use, or you can go fully manual. It handles just like a small DSLR, with the manual zoom and controls setup.
