Nikon SLR Cameras

Is there such thing as an adapter for Sony DSLR's?

I have a Sony DLSR a700 and it's hard to find lenses for it. Canon and Nikon lenses are way easier to find and I was wondering if there's some sort of adapter so I could connect one of those lenses to my Sony.

would be nice if you provide like a link to where I can buy one if ever. And don't tell me stuff like "you shouldn't have bought a Sony then if you're just gonna use a Canon or Nikon lens… " I won the camera so I don't have a choice.

What you win you can sell. Exactly this is the reason why I warn people for sony. Does surprise me a bit though, sigma's got most of it's lineup for sony now as well, sony itself makes some decent lenses.

Anyway…

no guarantee about optical quality though

Yes they do make adapters for the Sony E Mount. Instead of doing that though, i would try using one of the many excellent Konica/Minolta lenses. Sony's E mount is actually based on the Konica/Minolta mount ( mainly because Sony bought them out several years back). They can be had cheaply on Ebay

If you still want an adapter, those can be found on Ebay as well. Be certain and read the reviews on the various adapter available. Some do not let you focus to infinity.

You obviously haven't done your research.

The Sony dSLR uses the "A" mount, there are over TWENTY YEARS worth of Minolta A mount lenses, plus many from Sigma and Tamron etc. You don't need to look for only "Sony" lenses. Every one of those lenses will auto-focus on your Sony, every one will meter properly and every one will be image stabilised.

Do a search on eBay for Minolta lenses (not the very old MC/MD mount) and see how many results you get!

Without realising it you have bought one of the best dSLR cameras ever made.

Every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 will be right at home on your A700. They will auto focus and become, in effect, Image Stabilized lenses since the IS is in the camera body. Lenses for the Konica-Minolta DSLR cameras are also fully compatible with your A700.

You can also check the site below, it is a Sony / Minolta "A" mount only site, it is free to join and has lots of lens, camera, and accs.reviews and all the members are very friendly and eager to help with any Alpha / "A" mount questions.
I have been a member for 5 years and learned allot of things from the other members.

First of all, Luis is completely wrong. The Sony e-mount is not the same as the a-mount. The a-mount is the same as the Minolta Maxxum/Konica Minolta mount and is interchangeable with Sony alpha. The E-mount is entirely different and is the mount for the Sony NEX cameras. You must use an adapter to fit an a-mount lens on and e-mount camera. There's no adapter to fit e-mount to a-mount.

Yes you can buy an adapter to use Canon or Nikon lenses on a Sony alpha, but you will lose all auto functions and maybe even your metering. It just isn't worth it.

But how can you say that Sony lenses are hard to find?

Hmm, 103 choices of lenses that will fit and work on your Sony alpha. I mean how many lenses do you need? Seems like there are more than enough.

If you really are unhappy with the camera, sell it. There are plenty of people who would love to have it. I wouldn't mind having a second one. Just keep in mind that there's no way you can get that much camera for that much money from Canon or Nikon.

Lenses for sony cameras are very easy to find (go online and you will see). They may not have as many as Nikon or Canon, but then again you don't need a million lenses - most people get by with only 2 or 3 lenses (for example, my 28-90mm and my 70-300mm lenses cover everything I need with my canon. They may not be the best lenses, but they do the job). I don't need every lens under the sun.

As others have mentioned, you can also get used minolta autofocus lenses that will work on your sony.
