Is there a camera that can go underwater and above water?

I'm looking for a really good camera like a Nikon or a Canon. Ya know good semi professional cameras. Is there one that can go Under and above water. I assume if it can go under water it should work just fine out of water. Does anyone know a camera like this and how much it would cost?

Don't know of any SLRs that can do that. Normally you'll have to use a housing to accomplish this. And that runs you about 2k for a good system. I like my Olympus Tough that I use for snorkeling and diving. It has a large LCD screen for underwater shots and It's great for taking out on the town when you don't want to carry that bulky SLR. I have a Nikon D5000 that I love though, check out my photos on tumblr @ thephotolist.tumblr.com

There are a limited amount of underwater cameras available, you just have to do a lot of research… Yes, mostly you will find housing units for your cameras, but there are very expensive underwater cameras available.

I live in florida and my family and I are always in or near water so every camera I have… 4 are all either waterproof or have an underwater case. I've been pretty happy with my canon d10, it's pretty good for a point and shoot and it's an underwater camera, no case need. I do however have to adjust the levels in all my underwater pics. Auto levels helps out a lot. Here are a couple pics from my Canon d10~

Both edited though, here is the second before and after~ http://www.facebook.com/...=1&theater

I also have one of those plastic underwater cases for my Nikon d90.It works great too~

There are many good point/shoot models with water tight housing that are good to 5 or more meters - and work fine out of the water too.

I use an Olympus Stylus Tough with is good to 3 meters - All I need. (Less than $300)

I don't think the image quailty is as good as my canon DSLR, but it is good enough for the occasional wet work, cost less then the watertight housing for the DSLR and is small enough to be handy and convenient in the water snorkling, swiming or surfing.

For SLR cameras, you would need an underwater housing, and they are not cheap. A company called Ikelite makes them, but they start at almost $2, 000.

Underwater housings for point and shoots are a lot cheaper at $500 or less, and a point and shoot can be a good option. Using an SLR underwater is difficult because you can't look through the viewfinder.

There are also a variety of cameras made by Olympus that are rated to 20 feet without a housing. They are perfect for snorkeling, but obviously not SCUBA diving.

One other option is an underwater housing set that can be used up to 40m underwater and above water.http://store.aikotradingstore.com/underwater-waterproof-camera-housing-sets/
