Is the Nikon 85 1.8G and Sigma 50 1.4 sharp at the widest aperture?
(I have both the Nikon 50mm 1.8D and 35mm 1.8G, but they aren't the best at 1.8… )
I'm debating which one to purchase because I need a good portrait lens that will blow out the background like crazy, but still retaining sharpness. They're also both at the exact same price range.
Not nearly as sharp when you stop the lenses down two stops from wide open.
The longer lens will provide the most out of focus background
A wide angle lens, no matter how fast will ALWAYS provide more apparent depth of field
No lens is at it's best wide open, they all benefit from stopping down a couple of stops to it's 'sweet spot'.
Focal length only determines how far from the subject you need to be to frame the same shot, with the same framing and the same aperture depth of field will be the same on any focal length lens.
Sharp at widest is like fast at first gear.
- Why are a lot of high end lenses' widest aperture only f/3.5, f/4?
- Which lens give the widest field of view with the least distortion?
- Dslr aperture ring won't adjust the aperture?
