Is it reliable to buy a manufactured refurbished camera?
There's a nikon 5100 on ebay in a Really GOOD PRICE and it's manufactured refurbished… What does this term means? Is it reliable to buy it?
I have purchased two refurbished Nikon cameras and they have worked (and still do) just fine.
When Nikon refurbishes a camera, it is difficult to tell it from a new one.
'Manufacturer refurbished,' means that Nikon have checked it out and stand behind it - it would be perfectly safe to buy.
'Manufactured refurbished,' is a meaningless phrase by someone whose honesty is on a par with their English - I wouldn't buy a penny chew from them.
It depends on your tolerance. I don't hesitate to buy manufacturer refurbished cameras.
* All modern cameras are sturdy in my experience and reliable.
* Most of the time, refurbished camera are mint and never used.
* Good and bad about warranty. Most refurbs come with 30 day or 90 days warranties compared to 1 year typical warranty for the new cameras. Means if you find an issue within a month, you can return them.
* Most refurbished cameras are nicely discounted so one can have them at 20-40% discounted price.
Just be sure it says manufacturer refurbished and not seller refurbished.
Like others, I have purchased refurbished gear before - but sometimes refurbished is a good deal and sometimes it is not. I would only buy refurbished gear if you get at least a 25% discount. Otherwise, you might as well buy new.
It means the camera was returned to the factory for one reason or another. Sometimes people just change their mind and take it back to the store. Other times a camera may have a defect. Nikon will then go over the camera & put it back to factory specs.
I bought a Nikon D5000 this way. It looks and works like new.
