Is it okay to use other adapters to charge an iPod Touch?
I bought an ipod touch 4th generation 2 days ago and I discovered that it doesn't come with a charger. I'm a newbie to apple products. So, as i was saying, i have this adapter for my Nikon digital camera, specifically, SC3100. I compared my aunt's apple adapter with it and it has the same input but the output of the apple adapter is 5v -- 1A while my camera adapter says 5v -- 0.55A. I have no money yet to buy an adapter from apple. Can I settle with my camera's adapter?
It is completely fine unless the voltage output is higher on the charger than is rated on the device. The 1A or 0.55A refers to amps, the higher the amps, the faster the charge.
Personally, I wouldn't? I mean, you could try.but.call up Apple, and tell them it didn't come with one. They are SUPPOSED to come with a Booklet, Charger, Headphones, & Of Course, The Unit. Apple is Way to overpriced on their items, so if I was you, I would buy one on eBay, they actually sell them in bundles. On eBay you can get like 5 USB sync cables for $10 or something around there? Apple charges I belive 20-30$ for one charger. Now, the ones on eBay are not the Official apple ones, but they work, I use a non-authentic one, it works fine, I do have the one that came with my unit, but that one is my back-up. Hope I helped!
The power coming from the camera's adapter is sufficient. USB uses a standard voltage of 5-5.1 volts. The current does not need to match. It just has to be at or above what the iPod needs. Your Mother's adapter might be a third party device. The OEM Apple USB wall charger only puts out 0.5A. I'm assuming from your description that you will be connecting your Apple data cable to the camera's USB wall charger.
