Is Fujifilm a good model for digital cameras?

Are Fujifilm's Bridge and Pro model cameras reliable and good quality? I've never had a Fujifilm camera before. Are they comparable to the quality of Nikon or Canon?

Their high end cameras are good, but I owned a cheap Fuji bridge camera (S2950) and it was awful. I had it about 2 months before I got rid of it.

Their compacts and so called 'bridge' cameras are no better or worse than any other brand at similar prices. They are all saddled with the same issue, small image sensors with poor image quality, and glass that may be average at best.

Fuji doesn't really make a truly pro camera, I don't know that they ever did. Their high end large image sensor cameras like the X series are very good, but they have their issues. In some cases the X pro 1 offers image quality better than Nikon or Canon cameras because the image sensor is better.

Don't get caught up in brands, get caught up in how good the image sensor is. DxOmark.com can give you some indication of what image sensor is better than another, but the numbers need to be interpreted when resolution differences between sensors varies greatly. Downloading actual RAW files to look at is the best way to gauge image quality. For example, the 5 year old Nikon D700 has cleaner images in low light vs the new D800, but the D800 scores higher. The higher resolution of the D800 has the advantage because all images are down sized to 8MP before noise is judged.

Bang for the buck, you could probably do better with any of the new Sony NEX models, or even a Samsung NX210 or NX1000. Fuji charges a premium for their high end gear. Avoid high end (small image sensor) compacts and bridge cameras at all costs if you want to step up to better image quality. Regardless of price or brand, they are all mediocre.
