Is an iPhone 6 plus camera good for filming?

I know this is a dumb question since I'm considering buying a phone for a camera, but help me out if you guys can since I don't know my facts too well. I'm a film maker, and for awhile I've been using a Samsung WB250F, but started to look back the quality just isn't as great anymore, I just doesn't have as high quality as i hope and looks pretty bad on retina screens. I've been trying to buy a new camera, and recently stumbled on an iPhone 6 Plus, that has a beautiful quality camera, and I do love the 60 frames per second recording, but is that a good idea? I've also been looking at Parasonic Cameras and Nikon Cameras, but I'm just not sure what to spend my money on, and which could offer my needs? Also, I saw an action cam by AEE, that has 4K recording and 60 FPS. Is that a good option too since it has high specs. Only thing that makes me skeptic about it is that it's only $250 which is really cheap and it's a go pro type device.

If you really are a filmmaker, then you would already know the answer. While you were in film school, you would have used a large variety of different cameras to shoot your films and video, so you would have the experience necessary for you to know the extreme limitations trying to use a mobile to shoot a script.

Filmmakers use super 35 mm ARRI camera to shoot film.

They use professional level video cameras to shoot video like the ARRI ALEXA, RedOne, Panasonic P2 or Sony CineAlta cameras These all have super 35 mm sensors and cost from $15,000 to over $250,000.

This is one reason filmmakers rent the equipment they need for each film project.

Do you know how much data a 4k video file produces?

Do you know the cost of a video editing station designed for editing 4k video?

I have a colleague who shoots mostly 2k (Full HD) She has two $25,000 Panasonic P2 cameras and a video editing booth that cost just over $10,000. She told me that if she ever has to go to 4k video, she is getting out of the business. She said that her costs would be in the range of four times her current investment.

Your budget of $250 might buy one of her 16 gb P2 memory cards, if they were still made. The smallest P2 card is now the 32 gb and it costs just under $400

You said you are a filmmaker but didn't specify your needs or at what level you are in filmmaking. At a certain level, the iPhone 6 is probably as good as it gets. However, at another level you should be looking at camcorders from Canon, Sony, and Panasonic with price depending on what features you need. There are consumer level cameras, prosumer (semi-professional), and professional levels. Any of them, even the lowest priced consumer level camcorders will likely be a huge improvement over your old Samsung.
