Nikon SLR Cameras

I want to buy a professional camera?

I would like to buy a camera ( Nikon, Canon, FujiFilm, the brand doesn't matter ) however, i don't have much money to spend on it. So basically what i'm looking for is a semi to a professional camera, with 5-10 mpx, not looking for anything too serious, and a nice MACRO function.

If it's simpler, just write out the models, and i will check them out and decide!

There are 3 great ones I have owned, they all meet the requirements you stated.

Try the Canon 350D, Fujiflm S2000, or The Fujifilm S2950.

To take photos with useful saleable applications ('professional') you need a camera with a physically large sensor, that is, a DSLR or a CSC (most). All cameras now have at least 10 mps, but all compacts have physically small sensors (even with lots of mps) which do not allow the best quality of image file.

So you need to spend about £400/$700 on a DSLR by Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, or Olympus. Macro comes with having a macro lens, at least £200/$300 extra.

I think by the fact that you quote "5 to 10 mps" that you haven't looked at the market recently.

You can't get a semi pro, or professional camera. You stated in your question "I don't have much money to spend… "

So what else is there to say?

You have more research and learning to do before you do anything else. All the info you seek, and tutorials on photography are all over the web for free.

pro cameras don't have macro functions, that's a function of the lens. Wanting a good macro function works in the compact camera world because the lens is attached and it's permanent.

Cameras that are considered the bottom end of professional start at around 3, 000 US dollars, that would be a Sony A99, Nikon D700 or D800, and Canon 5D mark III. True pro dSLRs start at around 5, 000 US dollars.

Yet again, we have a questioner wanting a 'professional' camera without.apparently, any knowledge of photography or any knowledge of what the term means.

"Professional" cameras do NOT have a macro function, but rather they use macro lenses.

A good professional grade DSLR is a Canon 1D series or the Nikon D3/D4 series.

BUT… DSLR cameras come in three grades:

entry level (consumer) $550 to $1, 000…
Semi-professional $1, 000 to $3, 000…
Professional $4, 000 to $45, 000+ (Body only)… Canon 1D, Nikon D3/D4

Both Canon and Nikon make nice cameras. The best thing to do is visit an actual camera shop (not bestbuy/walmart) and try the different models within your budget to see which feels the best to you AND they can answer your questions about the cameras. I bought a Canon for its ergonomics/feel/menu and control layout and a fellow photog chose Nikon for the same reason… It is about personal preference.

The one thing to remember is to budget in extra money to cover an extra battery, memory cards, camera case, a USB memory card reader, and taxes (these can add another $200-$250 to the entry level camera price).

My thoughts on photography/cameras…

1) Photography is roughly 70% photographer skill/experience, 20% lens quality, and 10% camera body
2) I would rather have a $600 camera with a $1, 500 lens than I would a $1, 800 camera and a $300 lens

Another person who hasn't set a their budget because photography is one very expensive hobby.

Do you have any idea on how much a "Professional or a Semi-Professional Camera" actually cost? Obviously you don't "Professional Cameras" usually start right around $4500 and "Semi-Professional Cameras" usually starts around $3500 that's just for the "Body" itself meaning that "Lenses" isn't even included. You would have to be spending so much more money on purchasing multiple lenses. Also have to consider on getting Accessories for the camera such as

Tripod
Extra Batteries, Memory Cards
Card Reader
External Flash
Lens Cleaning Kit
Microfiber Cloth
Camera Bag
Filters

Everything you would be spending easily $10, 000 if not more.

Target has a nice Hello Kitty camera for only $40.
