brands--- sony, nikon, canon, samsung, lg, etc

With your budget (~$222USD), you are looking in the P&S (point & Shoot) camera range. The best thing to do is visit your local camera shop and see which ones are available in your budget that has everything you are wanting and feels good in your hands. I would suggest either Canon or Nikon for reliability

Don't forget to budget in an extra battery, memory cards, and a camera case.
