I NEVER use non Nikon products with my Nikon cameras. Buy the charger Nikon made for it. A cheap charger may damage the battery.

If the camera has a charging connector that isn't USB, be sure that the voltage and polarity are correct. I'm not familiar with the Kenro brand, but it might not be a good idea to risk an expensive camera with a cheap universal charger.

Many such chargers have moveable contacts.

If this is the case with yours, google the charger, and see if there's a separate data sheet.

How did you come to have this charger?

You charge the camera battery by taking the battery OUT OF THE CAMERA and inserting it into the charger and plugging it into the wall AC outlet. If the charger is not designed to fit the battery design that is used with your camera, then it can't work. Simple as that.

Did you buy this camera used and that charger was included? Surely you can determine if the battery fits into the charger or not. Can't you? If there's no way for the battery to fit into the charger, then it is not going to work.

The Nikon D5300 came with a Lithium-Ion EN-EL14a battery and MH-24 Quick Charger

You need to use these two items together to charge your battery.

There are some reasons NOT to use generic batteries or chargers.

Most of the newer cameras made by Nikon and Canon will refuse to work if you insert a generic battery in them. Generic battery chargers do not monitor the charging of batteries which can cause overheating, overcharging and sometimes fires and even explosions.

Stick with the accessories that came with your camera and replace them with the same components.

I'm not familiar with Kenro but all my universal chargers work by adjusting the metal probes to touch the battery's electrical contacts. It doesn't matter which is + or - (ignore if not + or -). The charger works anyway. Charging time is unknown so I simply do it overnight.
