How to shoot good video on Nikon D5200 (gets wobbly/ jello image while panning)?
Hi, I just bought a Nikon D5200 to use for some of my short films. I usually film stuff with a 16mm film camera so I'm sort of new to digital stuff. I tried out the video and noticed wobbling when I move the camera horizontally. Are there any settings I should be on to fix that? Do you recommend any settings just for good quality in general or just basic things that are important to know? I've been playing around with it but I need a little help. I've been looking for videos for how to do video but I haven't found any that goes into good detail. Maybe you might know any that will help me out a little more? Thank you so much!
Added (1). I took photography classes before so I know some stuff about the camera, just not the video part.
Alot of it is holding steady. Try a tripod that pans.
Most of that movement is hand shake… We all have it and it's impossible to avoid without some extra gear.
I shoot a Canon t3i and I use my 18-55 IS (VR for Nikon) because it helps hide hand movement. Also at
18mm, I don't zoom with video, the wider lens also helps.
Panning, that's a different story. Panning is not a good video technique. It's bothersome to viewers and just looks bad. Static shots are always best. Remember one principal of moving pictures be they film or video. "Cameras are meant to capture motion, not create it". So, don't do motion shots with a video camera unless you're following action - a person walking buy, a car passing buy. Don't move the camera just for the sake of movement… Very bad technique.
