How to open a vintage Nikon SLR?

I'm a 'hobbyist' photographer and I want to try film photography. I was recently given this camera and I can't figure out how to open up the back where you put in film. I'm not sure if mine is different or broken. Here are some pictures

Usually with that type of camera, the film spool is at the left side.

Hold the camera as if you were going to take a pic (ie lens pointing away from you).
See the large dial on the left hand end of the top of the camera? There should be a little lift up 'handle' there, which may be shaped like a sort of a semi-circular shape or just a small straight 'bar'. Lift that up and then pull the handle up. There will be a slight ressistance as it's spring loaded. The back of the camera should flip open.

Your images are pretty poor quality - but it looks like that part MAY be missing.

If you can find a model number on it somewhere, we can probably get you a link to download the manual for it. It looks like a Nikon FE but I'm not sure.

Read this: http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf2/f2/index.htm

Scroll down to the section "Loading the film"

If it doesn't look like that at the bottom it may be a different model. Try to find out the model then use google to find an instruction manual. Your photos of the camera are so poor I can't quite tell which model of Nikon F it is.

As Deep blue has said, with some SLRs you pull out the handle on the take up spool to pop the back open.

Get and study the owners manual. Your current "problem" is only the beginning if you have no experience using film or the camera.

Just loading the film would be like someone telling you how to put gas in a car, but you have no ability to drive.
