How to effectively photograph yugioh cards?

I'm trying to sell my old yugioh card collection on ebay and I'm having some trouble photographing the individual cards. They just don't look as shiny and high quality as the other sellers' pictures. I have a decent nikon dslr and a good lense so I'm guessing my problem has to do more with lighting and angles than equipment. Any tips?

Have you tried using a scanner? Proper lighting can be difficult with some items.
