How much will a decent hunting rifle scope cost?
I'm getting a rifle hopefully today, but I don't know much about scopes. How much will a fairly decent scope cost? Any specific brand? I was thinking Nikon. Any additional info would be great, thanks
With any optics you get what you pay for. I was always a Leupold guy until I bought my first Trijicon scope. Don't cheat yourself, buy quality! You might pay up to $700.00 bucks or more, but you'll be glad you did.
Decent… Decent is a relative term… Swarovski and Nightforce scopes cost thousands and are considered some of the best…
You also didn't mention what kind of rifle, what cartridge and what distance you wanted to use this rifle for… In absence of that all I can offer is 2 brands that are a good value…
You can get a passable scope for $150.00-$200.00, but research and spend as much as you can afford. It is better to have a great scope on a good gun than Viceversa.
A good solid scope that will hold zero and not change point of aim when changing magnification will run you 130 to 200 dollars. They will have decent glass at that price point, this has improved with every generation of scopes and now the 150 dollar scopes have glass similar to what a 400 dollar scope had 5 to 10 years ago. Nikon prostaff, Bushnell elite series(maybe the trophy xlt scopes), redfield and leupold vx1's are in this price range, especially online.
What kind of rifle and how much are you looking to spend?
If you are putting it on a $200.22 rifle, you might not wish to spend hundreds or thousands for a scope.
A quality scope will run $250- $500. I have put a $450 Leupold scope on a rifle that cost more than the rifle did. Nikon are reportedly good scopes, I've not owned one myself. If you plan to do serious hunting, do go cheap on yourself with the optics. They are 1/3 the team of you, and your rifle.
