I have one and it looks really smooth. Specially compare to my newer Nikon 1080p @30fps. It's crazy how they still give new cameras a run for their money.

Not enough information… So I will guess… You are comparing the extremely compressed, VOB file, standard definition video when played back on your computer to a less compressed, high definition, video file…

The standard def file is lots easier to deal with by the computer. The high definition video from the camera needs decent horsepower form the computer and a decent media player.

The "old DVD camcorder" records and plays back at either NTSC standard 29.97 frames per second (which most folks call 30 frames per second) in North America and 25 fps in PAL standard countries.

I'll wager there's nothing wrong with the cameras - the issue is with your computer not able to deal with the high definition video. But without knowing which computer, operating system (and version, or the media player being used (VLC player is a good one), it is impossible to know for sure.

Thanks for answering. My old camera is (hitachi dz-mv550a) and my newer one is (nikon aw110). I'm pretty sure my computer can handle video playback. My PC specs are cpu: FX8350, ram:16g, gpu: gtx650 ti boost 2x sli.
