How long can the nikon d5300 take video?
I was recording a video that was like 14 minutes and it stopped recording after ten minutes. Does it just do that, and I will keep having to press record after ten minutes. Or is it the settings. I can't find in the manual where it talks about it.
It depends upon many different things
* Do you have a Class 10, UHS I U-3 memory card?
* What resolution and frame rate are you using?
* Do you know that the largest file size an SD, CF or XQD is limited to 4 GB?
* Do you also know that most videographers shoot using a script and when they do, their takes are less than a few minutes. It is important to get good "takes" of each scene before you start editing your video.
* Do you know that the longer you have the live view mode, the hotter the camera's sensor will become and eventually shut off the camera to protect the sensor -- it is therefore important that you frame your videos using the optical viewfinder before you start recording video.
Since a camera like the D5300 can produce Full HD video that will last from about 20 minutes to 29 minutes depending upon the lighting you are using and other factors.
Look on page 27 of your user manual for more detailed information
Using a DSLR still photo camera to shoot videos has its limitations. You have run into one of them. There are others. For the best experience shooting video, buy a video camera.
This is why you should've bought a camcorder.
Many DSLR's over-heat and shut down between 12 & 15 minutes to protect themselves. Trying to keep filming is 'cooking' the electronics and reducing the life of the camera. There's also sometimes a size limit to the video file it tries to create.
Remember: a DSLR is a still-shot camera with some video features added in as an after-thought. It is NOT a camcorder which is designed for video.
That's about it. Perfectly normal. It's a digital camera. If you want longer, use a digital camcorder.
You can have multiple 14-minute takes though but I guess that's not what you are aiming for. Besides, there will be gaps if you do that.
If you are looking more into video then go for camcorder because camcorder are specifically design for taking videos for long period and they do more good then camera eg there stabilization etc.
but for nikon D5300 it depend on above things as fhotoace have highlighted.
