How do i upload pictures from my nikon camera to my mac? When i connect my camera with a usb cord nothing happens?

The camera needs to be on when it is plugged in. Go to iPhoto. Your camera should show up on the sidebar in iPhoto. Then you can select the photos you want upload.

Or do what most of us regulars here do, use a usb card reader. They're not expensive and are sold where ever cameras are available. I've been using them for years.

Use a USB card reader to connect your camera's memory card directly to the computer's USB slot. When recognized, use Finder to do the actual transferring for total control of what goes where.

Search iPhoto in the finder and open the application
