Help picking a new camera?

COURTNEY

I'm looking to buy a DSLR camera from either Sony, Nikon, or Canon. I don't want a cheap not-so-good one, but I also don't want an extremely expensive one. Based on the ones I have chosen, please leave feedback as to which you would prefer, and feel free to include your own personal camera opinions as well. Thank you so much. (:

My suggestion is to go to a trusted retailer and ask to get the cameras in your hand. See how they feel, are the buttons and dials conveniently located, does one feel the right size and compared to too big and heavy or too small and light?

Even though you don't mention the brand I love my Pentax K 20D and I'm looking to add another body later this year with the K5. Why? I love how comfortable it is to hold, it features two rotary dials, one for aperture and one for shutter speed settings, and shake reduction is in the body so I don't always have to have it in a lens (can save me money). With the exception of digital noise, (loss of picture quality) at high ISO I'm totally thrilled with it. In addition, I have a couple of Pentax lenses and three Sigma lenses compatible for the Pentax mount and absolutely love these lenses as well. Great quality.

That being said, what's important is how a specific model feels to you and the type of features you are looking for. Also, a lot is going to ride on how you learn to use the equipment and the effort you put into practicing and learning how to get great shots.

I really like my Canon 550D. It's called the Canon Rebel T2i in the US. It has an 18 mega pixel sensor and takes great photos. It also has 1080 HD video, with a choice of frame rates. The video quality is superb, it looks great on my high definition TV.
