Help picking out a camera?
*I'm an aspiring, promising young photographer but my parents refuse to pay for my hobbies expenses. I want a DSLR camera next and they want me to get the cheapest one which is all of $500… I narrowed it down to 2 choices, if any photographers have any tips that would be appreciated too (:
**Canon EOS Rebel T3 Black 12.2MP DSLR Camera, EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS II Lens, 2.7" LCD, EOS Full HD Movie Mode OR Nikon D3100 14.2MP DSLR Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens, 3" LCD, HD Video
The D3100 also has Full HD video.
Here is how those two cameras sensors perform

As you can see, the D3100 edges out the T3, especially when shooting in low light conditions
I think the nikon d3100 slightly outperforms the canon. Sounds like your parent are pretty generous… Getting you a 500 dollar camera… You sounds like a bratty kid not even nearly close to being out of high school… Perhaps they don't think you posess even passion for this… It will be just another expensive thing for them to reach into their pockets for… Why don't you have a JOB is what I'm wondering.
I would go with the nikon d3100.Im i the process of trying to buy one right now, too. I used one of my friends, ad I fell in love with it. Its a GREAT Camera.
In my opinion i think canon is the best but in these case you should go with Nikon
