Good Canon/Nikon SLR camera for a price range between $400 and $500?

I want a professional camera, that's either canon or nikon for no more than $500
I'm an amateur who loves photography, and I care about having good quality pictures and colors
Don't care much about video quality since I already have a camcorder
Any suggestions?

Professional cameras cost a h3ll of a lot more than 500 bucks. What you're interested in is called an entry-level DSLR - the Rebel T3 is the only new DSLR that costs less than 500 bucks.

That's true. Professional cameras start at about $2, 500 and go up. Consumer level dslr cameras, like the t3, the latest offering from Canon, start at about $500.

You're joking, right? A low end professional camera will cost you $2, 500 just for the body.
An amateur doesn't need a pro level camera. You won't get the full use of all it's features, or even know how to use them.
At $500 you may be able to find a refurbished Nikon D3100 0r Canon Rebel on sale. Or there's a few Sony D-SLR's out there for that price that have been discontinued.
