Yes but you'll have to manually focus it and likely use stop-down metering.

Splendid as long as you don't mind working in full manual mode. You might not even get the help of the light meter.

That would depend on which one. If it's an Ai or converted to Ai. It will mount and meter on the D700. If it's earlier it will not work
D7000, D300 and up (that includes the D700) has the ring on the mount to be able to meter with Ai lenses.
