Upgrading from the D90?

Josh

I started out taking photographs with a Nikon D40 and after 2 years I upgraded to a D90 I now feel I need a better camera, I want a camera that can handle low light situations much better than the D90 can. I just need help with what camera to upgrade to. Do I upgrade to a D7000, D300s or do I make the move to fullframe and go for a D700 or other camera?

Added (1). Its not just the iso capabilities I would be upgrading the camera for, I would want faster fps more autofcous points and so on but iso was my main improvement I wanted. What lenses would you recommend I buy? I have a Tokina 11-16mm, Nikon 50mm f/1.8, Sigma 70-300mm f/3.5-f/5.6, Nikon 105mm f/2.8 and the kit lens 18-105mm.

Waste of money to upgrade the camera body just for low light applications. You're better off spending your cash on quality fast lenses. They'll give you far better image quality than upgrading the body.

Some good pro f2.8 or wider glass will cost you about the same as a D300s body in any case.

If it's really improved high-ISO performance you want, then you really need to go for a D3. If you can't raide the cash for a D3, I would not bother going for anything older than the D7000, which will allow you to keep your current lenses, at least.

Accept it, nikons are blind at night… I know, i watched a poor sod with a D90 trying to photography chinese lanterns as they floated away… I managed 30 shots… He couldnt even get a lock.

mind you, my camera is just as blind, i just happen to know how to get around the shortfalls…

1 don't shot on auto.use aperture priority, this will fire every time, in focus, or not…
2 if you can't get a lock, find something on the same level plane, get a lock, and recompose
3 if all else fails,… And it does occasionally, i use a red dot laser marker… Its mounted on the camera off the base… And i just photoshop the dot out… (its like half a dozen dead pixels)

throwing money at it, won't solve the problems.working on your technique will…

oh, and my camera system is the Olympus E series… Currently using the E510.
