Thoughts on the Nikon D2x?

Dad recently lent me his Nikon D2x with a 18-200m NIKKOR VR lens. Camera is about 12 years old but I heard it was a professional camera back in the day (like sports illustrated, nat geo kind of stuff). It shoots kind of weird but I like it. Any experience with it? How do you like it? Should I start saving for a new updated camera or can I roll with the d2x for a while?

It was seriously robust could continue to operate without a problem for a long, long time.

The 18-200 mm VR is a fine single lens solution for many people.

You can spend the necessary few years using the D2x learning the fundamentals of photography with no problem.

Later if you decide to spend more money on your hobby, look closely at the Nikon D500 or a refurbished D800 (full frame) Nikon full frame cameras can use DX and FX lenses. "Shoots kind of weird"? In what way weird?

I used a D2x for several years as my main camera (it belonged to my employer) and found nothing which I could call "weird" about its way of handling and quality of imaging. My chief comparison was with a D100 - both cameras worked well for me. Lent? Don't give it back!
