Nikon do it all lense?

Looking for a do it all lense for my nikon d300? Looking for a midrange zoom w/ macro capabilities w/ f 2.8.So far all I could find is the 24-85mm f 2.8-4 or the sigma 17-70mm. Some forums they say the nikon 24-85 is too soft tho so seeing if there's something better. I want to use the lense as my walk-around lense for trips and also have it be good enough for low light (for weddings). Does such a lense exist?

I've heard some good things with the Sigma, but all of these all in one lenses sacrifice some quality for range along with brightness. But this is coming from a primes lover.

I have been using the 24-85 mm lens since 2002 and it is still one of my favorite when shooting certain subjects.

I can't believe that people in "forums" would say it is soft. Sheesh!

Here are a few shots taken with that lens

These image files were resized to 600 x 400 @ 72 DPI, so you can't enlarge them

The original images were shot RAW and were 12 mb files

The 24-85 mm lens would certainly do the job when shooting weddings. It is the one I use when shooting event photography

Maybe a 35mm f/1.4 if such animal exists in the Nikon realm. If not, an f/1.8 will do.

There's no do it all lens. There's a few do most lenses.
f2.8 lenses are either limited in range (sigma 18-50, tamron 17-50, tamron 28-75) or very expensive Nikon and sigma's 24-70.
There's some reasonably fast lenses like the 24-85 (which is not soft at all!)
There's also a Nikon 28-105, not fast either but a very good 1:2 macro () I've shot that as my main zoom for years and got some very decent macro shots with it ()
