Is the Nikon D300 good for a beginner photographer?

If not do you have any other suggestions?

Nikon D300 or D3000? D300 is a great model, you can get it for around $800 used.
There's a D90, Canon EOS 60D and Pentax K-r that are all fast as well and are great.

A D300 wouldn't be a good starter camera. A D3000 or D3100 would be, though.

U r talking about d300 or d3000
d300 was a pro level can i think you should go with d3100 or d5100
but hav a look at canon too
canon t3, t2i, t3i

The D300s is the best camera in the DX format available today. The camera is extremely accurate and fast in autofocus mode and shoots a fast 6 fps. Compared to D90 or lower, this model focuses VERY fast. Sometime with my D90 I literally watch it go into and out of focus as its trying to lock on the object. The D300s just blasts into focus as quick as can be.
