Is nikon going to introduce a new camera better than the d800?
Every time I buy a new Nikon the company introduces a new one that's better. I intend to buy a d800, should I wait for a newer model?
Added (1). I presently own a d200
I've got the same problem… Only mine is with women… Every time I get a girlfriend… A few days later i'll meet another one that's better…
It's the way of the world i'm afraid… It's really strange though, with cameras the technical improvements don't do that much for me… I have the D7100 and shoot with it in manual focus and in manual exposure mode… Twin SD slots are more important to me than 'wi-fi' or 'GPS'… And the 51 focussing points just don't light up the radar.
Some people laugh at me because I shoot with a D5100 most of the time… It delivers what I expect and it's a nice fit and weight… If you are someone that needs the latest bells and whistles on your camera for studio work etc then fair enough… I don't need it though… Most of the time i'm outside with good light - Give me any old camera and i'll give you something you can print, even a 35mm SLR… I don't like waiting much… I'd rather grab a shot with what i've got, than dream about what i'd get with the camera i'm still waiting for.
You might as well dive in, because with FX the body is chickenfeed compared to the cost of a suitable lens collection.
Arrived in perfect condition. Love this camera! It is a whole 'nother level of photography. Utterly amazing. I carry it everywhere.

Can't say it any better than what Harry Potter has said.
Most modern cameras are very capable. They offer more than we need. Also, there are not really many technology breakthroughs with camera technology recently. In my opinion, most of cameras made over last 2-3 years have nice sensors with great sensitivity. I have seen a $300 Pentax K-01 or Canon EOS-M do as good job as Nikon D7000 if not better.
As mentioned by Harry, in good light they all do great job. In low light or in difficult situations, a high quality fast lens can take you a bit further- not a camera body as such. Then it all comes down to you, your experience and skills.
Here are most of my photos taken with cameras costing less than $500!

Instead of tying to go for the latest, go for a good Full Frame camera if money is not a constraint for you. Buy expensive lenses. If money is one of the factors, a year old model at 30-40% discount is a better choice for me than going after the latest model.
If you are waiting for the latest - you will be waiting forever…

The D200 is a rather old camera replaced by the D300. The D400 has yet to be introduced and it has been over five years since the D300 was introduced.
Yes, Nikon does introduce "new" entry level cameras about every 12 to 18 months.
Since the Nikon D800 has the best performing sensor, I will guess that any new D900 will not come along for a while longer, not until Nikon can produce a camera which is much, much better than the D800E
- Why did Canon and Nikon introduce new lens mounts for their mirrorless cameras?
- Is the Nikon B700 going to be a better camera than the Nikon P610?
- Is the Nikon d700 a better buy than the d800?
- Is Nikon or canon better? And what dslr is a good starting camera, something better than t3i or t5i to start with?
- Is there suppose to be a new Nikon coming out better than the D4?
