Apples and oranges - one is a high end compact/bridge camera (not a DSLR!), the other a high end APS-C DSLR.

The D300s will blow it out of the water, but it also costs twice as much - without a lens.

Keep in mind that DSLR lenses aren't cheap - spend no more than 40% of the long term budget on the camera body. A good lens on a mediocre body will get you better results than a mediocre lens on a good body.

Have you considered e.g. The D7000? Also, what lenses do you already own, since you imply that you're replacing another DSLR with what you want to buy?

D300s although one is a DSLR and the other (Vlux2) is a non-interchangable lens 'bridge' camera so you can't really compare them.

Also the V-Lux 2 is essentially a rebadged Lumix FZ100 which will be much cheaper than the Leica!
