How to get rid of the vignette on my camera?

Hayley

I have recently purchased a nikon D800e and I'm shooting with a Nikon DX 18-200mm f3.5/5.6 lens.
When I shoot my photographs automatically have a circular black vignette around them. Why is this caused and how can i get rid of it?

You have a professional level camera and can't figure this out for yourself? So sad.

You are using the wrong lens. Your camera is a "full frame" camera and requires different lenses than those designed for "crop sensor" cameras. (DX lenses).

It's really, … R e a l l y… Surprising anyone who buys a D800 would not know this.

The camera can be set to automatically crop the sensor when DX lenses are used to avoid the vignetting.

You bought a Nikon FX (full frame) DSLR and don't know that a DX (crop sensor) lens will do that unless you set the D800E to auto crop the full frame sensor to DX format which will eliminate the vignetting you're experiencing? How sad is that?

Maybe you should watch this video tutorial:

For goodness sake - talk about 'all the gear & no idea'.

Your camera is a full frame, your lens is desgiend for crop frame camera bodies. You have to tell the camera that a DX lens is fitted onto it.

Please RTFM.

Every lens projects a circular image of the outside world. Only the center of this circle will deliver a satisfactory image. This area is called the circle of good definition. If the circle of good definition is too small the peripheral areas will be less sharp and dim (vignette). We most choose lenses with a circle of good definition that is large enough to cover the format (chip or film size) in our camera. The lens you are using was designed to cover the chip size of a compact digital camera. The full frame camera size is 24mm height 36mm length vs. 16mm height 24mm length for the compact digital. The compact digital chip is 66% of the full frame chip.

There are no foolish questions as this is how we learn and broaden our horizons.

Shame on those who cast aspersions on people seeking to learn. What it means is you are full of yourself and ill-mannered, in other words, your glass of the milk of human kindness is empty.

Why do you guys have to shame this guy instead of just helping him/her learn? HOW SAD IS THAT!
