Does anyone think the nikon d3100 is way better than the 5100?
I'm really asking people who have had them. Not info off the internet I've been googling it for a while. I think when I had the 3100 the focusing was better. Like I could focus on eyes or whatever with the red dot. And the 5100 has a larger sensor which really doesn't seem noticeable. I'm thinking of trading back to the lesser model until jan when I upgrade to the d800. Any opinions?
No the reverse is true.
The D5100 has a much better performing sensor than the D3100 and the D5100 has exactly the same size senor.

Just keep using the D5100 until you are producing brilliant images with it.
Just buying a D800 will NOT make your images any more compelling. That has all to do with your skills using light and the camera.
A fact, not an opinion, the D5100 is the better of the two.
