£3000 Photography set up?

I've saved £3000 over some time now and I have decided to upgrade my camera. I have looked at the nikon d3 and I already have lenses that fit onto my d100. Will my d100 lenses fit onto a d3? Anyway, is this a good move and could I get the d3 and a macro lens under £3000?

I don't see why not… D3 bodies are relatively cheap now… You should get one with a reasonably low actuation count for around 2K… Lenses will fit but be aware that lenses designed for crop sensors (DX) don't work well on full frame cameras (FX) - in fact the D3 shuts off the outer portion of the sensor and becomes a 5.1MP camera… Any lenses designed for 35mm film cameras should work just fine.

I recently bought a new Nikkor105mm f/2.8 VR Micro for my D3 for just over £600 and it's a very decent lens.

EDIT: This one has only 12, 000 actuations and is described as mint… Sitting at Circa £1600 at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/...0932349326

The D3 uses any of the Nikkor lenses, pretty much from the time AI manual focus lenses were produced.

Go for the D3 with macro lens. You do know that the D3 will automatically crop the sensor if you use any of your Nikkor DX lenses.

That's a big step. I do hope your photography skills are up to that. Your lenses will fit but you may not like their output quality.

IF this is a good move or not depends on a lot of things you're not telling.

A nikon 105mm vr costs about 620 pounds. A good used D3 (they don't make them new any more) should be around 1800-2000 pounds.
