Enabling 'Interval timer shooting' on my Nikon J1?

When I try to select this option in the menu, it is greyed out and says 'this menu or menu item is not at current settings/under current conditions', when I try to click it? I've been looking around on the internet but can't find the answer!

Read the manual that came with the camera. There should be a chart that show the different features and the modes they can/can't work with.

Since I don't have that camera, I dug out my Ouija board and summoned the spirit of Fred Nikon and the planchette moved.

Some options are available only on certain modes. The manual should explain it to you.

Many options are not available in auto mode. Try taking the camera out of auto and see if that works.
