Will the price of nikon cameras go up or down in the future?

I really want a Nikon D7000, but its about 1500 dollars.

If I buy it now, I would have to borrow money from my parents, but I would also have the support of my photo teacher/class (which ends in june). Plus I'm going to be doing a lot of stuff in may which i would like to photodocument.

If I buy it in July, hopefully I would've worked long enough to have 1500 in the bank. However, I would have to teach myself, and might end up missing out opportunities.

Do you think the price of the Nikon D7000 will go up or down in the near future, and by how much? I know they were a bit cheaper before the earthquake, but not by much. Do you think stores will have deals soon?

In my experience the manufacturers never lower their prices. Any sales are done by the retailers, not the makers.

As the quality goes up so does the price. I don't think the 7000 will go in either direction but stay pretty steady - at least that's what they've always done before

The D7000 is still relatively new. I expect at most a 5% drop between now and july. I expect more happening in the fourth quarter of this year, the camera will be a year old and the christmas rush will start.

You could consider a D90, still some of those left and it's a worthy predecessor. Another option is to start looking for a refurbished d7000

Not likely to go down in the near future - not until a replacement body is launched amd that's going to be 2-3 years away.

Can you put some towards it & borrow some from your parents on the understanding you'd pay back the balance by, say, August?

There has been a shortage of cameras' supply due to the Japan Earth Quake last month. The prices of most of the camera equipments have actually gone up. If the manufacturer is back onto full production, we will most likely to see a drop in the price. I agree with the drop in 5% or even more in July.

If there's no sign of full recovery in production, we will see increase in prices because of demand and supply. The risk is 50/50. Please be bear in mind that you are enjoying the camera longer if you are buying it now.
